Iโve been using the Waydoo Subnado Plus primarily for freshwater lake diving, with some additional testing in a pool to get comfortable with the controls, and overall itโs been a really impressive piece of gear.
In the lake, where visibility and current can vary, the 800W motor makes a noticeable difference. It delivers strong, steady thrust that helps conserve energy during longer swims between points of interest. The top speed feels quick without being uncontrollable, and the three speed settings are genuinely useful. I typically cruise on the middle setting for general exploration and bump it up when crossing open stretches. The thrust is more than enough for recreational diving and snorkeling in calm to moderately active freshwater conditions.
Battery performance has been consistent with the advertised runtime. In moderate use, alternating between speeds and pausing occasionally to observe, Iโve gotten close to the 60-minute mark. For lake diving sessions, thatโs usually more than enough for a solid exploration before heading back to shore. Charging has been fast and convenient, especially with the 140W fast charging that gets it back to full in a little over an hour.
At around 4 pounds, itโs easy to transport to and from the lake. It doesnโt feel bulky in a gear bag, and once in the water it feels balanced and manageable. The build quality stands out. The housing feels solid and durable, which is reassuring when using it in natural freshwater environments where you may encounter debris or uneven terrain.
In the pool, it was a great way to practice handling and get used to the throttle response. The controls are intuitive, and after a short learning curve it becomes second nature. In a controlled environment like a pool, you can really feel how smooth the acceleration is and how stable it remains, even at higher speeds. Itโs powerful but not jerky.
I would say itโs best suited for recreational diving, snorkeling, and underwater exploration rather than deep technical dives. For freshwater lake use, though, it adds a lot of fun and extends your range without excessive fatigue. Between the strong motor, solid runtime, quick charging, and lightweight portability, itโs a high-quality underwater scooter that performs reliably in both pool testing and real-world lake conditions. The price tag seems quite expensive at first glance, but with how solid the construction is and how well it works, it seems quite justified.
